Learning to Abide

Author: Ty Park
Oct 16, 2024 | John 15:1-17

Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

This verse is such a good reminder of our dependence on Jesus. In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget how crucial it is to remain connected to Him. Just as a branch needs the vine to thrive, we need Jesus to flourish in every aspect of our lives. When we abide in Him, we receive nourishment, strength, and purpose.

Life can be overwhelming, and we may often feel disconnected or uncertain. Jesus assures us that abiding in Him brings us joy, love, peace, and strength. These are not just for us; they overflow into the lives of those around us. In verses 12-13, He emphasizes the command to love one another, just as He has loved us. This love is the very essence of what it means to abide in Him.

When we face challenges, whether personal struggles, relationship issues, or uncertainties about the future, we can take shelter in the promise that we are never alone. Jesus invites us to remain in Him, to draw from His strength and guidance. Remember that every moment spent in His presence nurtures our soul and helps us grow.

Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • This week, join me in intentionally carving out time each day to “abide” in Jesus. This could be through prayer, reading Scripture, or simply sitting in quiet reflection.
  • Ask Him to reveal areas in your life where you need His guidance or strength.
  • Consider how you can extend His love to others in your daily interactions.
  • Prayer: Lord, thank You for being our true vine. Help us to remain in You, drawing strength and nourishment from Your love. May our lives reflect Your grace and goodness. Help us to love others as You have loved us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
