Read John 7

HEAD

If your mom or dad calls your name from another room, would you know it was them? If I am guessing, I am going to say yes! You would recognize them calling you even if you could not see them. Because you know their voices... because you truly know them. Jesus wants us to know Him like that. Not just know facts about Him but KNOW Him. Know His voice, His truth, and His love.

At the beginning of John 7, Jesus is getting ready to go to a big Jewish celebration called the Feast of Tabernacles. Lots of people will be there. But there are a few problems. Some leaders there want to hurt Jesus- because they do not want to KNOW Him. Some people are whispering and arguing about Him- because they think they KNOW Him. Even Jesus’ own brothers did not believe yet that He was the Son of God, because they had not truly gotten to KNOW Him. These people knew about Jesus, heard about Him, and some of them (His brothers) even grew up around Him, but they did not truly know who He was.

HEART

John 7 reminds us that we can know about Jesus and hear about Him and not truly know Him as our Savior. Jesus does not want us to only hear Bible stories, go to church regularly, and know all the facts about Him, but wants us to trust Him with our whole heart and choose to follow Him. He wants us to know His voice, just as well as we know our parents’ voices. He wants us to know His truth, the promises that are written in His Word. He wants us to know His love, the love that He showed us through the cross.

HANDS

This week, what is one thing you can do to move from knowing about Jesus to really knowing Him?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sending us Jesus, Your perfect Son. Help me to truly know Jesus. Help me to listen to His voice, to trust in His plans, and to follow His ways. I want to know Him more. Amen.
