36 | Acts 1:6-11 | Study Guide
Read Acts 1:6–11. Write down 5-7 words that stand out to you in this passage. Imagine being there when this happens. What do you think the disciples were thinking? How might you respond to such an event?
1. When you hear the word “witness”, what comes to mind? Is your association with that word negative or positive? What does it mean to be a witness for Jesus?
2. What did the disciples need before they were sent out with the news of the Resurrected Jesus (v.8)? Why do you think this is what they needed instead of resources, money, information, etc? Do you feel that you have this same power?
3. Consider the reason Jesus sent them out. What were they to be? Do you think we are sent out for this same purpose? Does being a witness look the same for everyone? How might it look for a single mother? A high school student? A teacher? A business owner?
4. Think of the geographical references as levels of difficulty when it comes to reaching people with the Gospel. Who would be close to becoming a Christian (Jerusalem)? Who is somewhat interested in the Gospel but still skeptical (Judea)? Who is perhaps spiritual but still uninformed of the way of Jesus and the salvation only He provides (Samaria)? Who is far from God and even hostile toward Christianity (ends of the earth)? What steps can you take toward each category of people?
5. What is one thing you need to grow in when it comes to being a witness?
