24 | Genesis 2:18-24 | Study Guide
Questions
1. Read Genesis 2:18-24. What are two or three insights that stand out to you? What does this passage teach us about our humanity in general and marriage specifically?
2. Seeking God first in marriage means that both spouses are committed to pursuing God above all. When this is not the case, how can it have a negative impact on marriage? When this is the case, how can it have a positive impact on marriage? What are the ways we ask our spouse to be what only God can be for us?
3. What does having an eternal mindset look like in a marriage? Consider day-to-day situations (cooking meals, commuting to work, going to ball games, spending money, etc.). How does an eternal mindset impact these situations? What might a mere earthly mindset look like in these situations? (See: Colossians 3:1-4).
4. God’s intention in marriage is that the two would become one flesh (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31-33). Marriage is therefore a covenant, not a contract. How does viewing marriage this way change our perspective? How does the marriage covenant provide a foundation where marriage can last and thrive?
