Read John 17:20–23. Stop and ponder for a moment that Jesus was praying for His disciples and all who would believe in Him through their message, which includes us! This means that unity deeply matters to Jesus.
Questions
- Think of a time in your life where you saw Christians united. What were some things that created this unity and oneness? What fruit did this produce? Have there been times when you’ve experienced disunity among Christians? What caused this?
- From verse 21, what does Jesus say is the purpose of our unity? In other words, what does our unity say to the world? How might our unity with one another compel non-Christians with the gospel?
- Being one testifies to the Father’s love for us (v.22). Why might this be the case? How does God’s love for us unite us together as one?
- What are the greatest obstacles among Christians to unity? How can we help overcome them?
