Message Notes

40 | Acts 18

Scripture

Primary Text: Acts 18; 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
Supplemental Text: Colossians 3:23; Philippians 2:14-15

Observations & Applications

  • Read Acts 18:1-3.
  • Paul was a tentmaker and worked in Corinth while planting the church there. What is your overall attitude toward your job and the work you do? Indifferent, positive, negative?
  • Read Colossians 3:23.
  • How would your work change if you regarded it as an act of worship or service to God? Read Philippians 2:14-15.
  • Read 1 Corinthians 1:10-17.
  • How does Paul define unity in this passage, and why is unity important within the local church?
  • How can we recognize and address sources of division within our own church community?
  • How can keeping our focus on the message of Christ crucified help us overcome divisions and differences within the church?

Prayer

Lord, help us recognize that the work You have given us is unique to each of us. May we be grateful for the opportunities we are given daily. I pray You help us guard against any divisive tendencies we have and that You will teach us how to be peacemakers so that we can be a better reflection of You. Thank you for how You love and guide us so well.

Guided Prayer

As you guard against division and seek unity within our church, lift up the following prayers this week:

Lord, what do you want from me?

Show me how I can help serve my church, God.

Father, reveal how I can encourage others.
