Scripture

Primary Text: Romans 1:1-7

Supplemental Text: Acts 7:54-8:3; Acts 9; Acts 26:9-23; 2 Corinthians 11:16-33

Observation & Application

The Life of Paul: Read the supplemental scripture above. What is something surprising about Paul’s life?

Gospel of God: According to verse 2, what is the "gospel of God" that Paul mentions? What does the gospel mean for you?

The Identity of a Servant: Servant (Greek: duolos) - complete and utter devotion. In Romans 1:1, Paul introduces himself as a "servant of Christ Jesus." What do you think it means to be a servant of Christ Jesus? How does embracing the identity of a servant impact the way we view our relationship with Christ and our role in the world?

Grace and Apostleship: Grace (Greek: charis) - being given something you haven’t earned. Apostle - adapting to a different culture to share the gospel. Read Romans 1:5. Paul speaks of receiving "grace and apostleship." How does the concept of grace shape our understanding of our own callings and roles within the community of believers?

Obedience of Faith: In verse 5, Paul speaks of bringing about "the obedience of faith." What does this phrase mean to you? How do faith and obedience intertwine in the Christian life?
