Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Psalms 129-130
Head
We do not know who wrote these chapters, but they are believed to have been written as they returned from exile to Babylon. In chapter 29, the author cries out to God about the oppression that God's people faced. Chapter 30 asks for forgiveness for past sins so that they can be better servants of the Lord. They encourage Israel (the chosen people) to put their hope in the Lord.
Heart
These chapters show how they felt on the journey back from Babylon. In chapter 29, they are telling God how hard these people have been on His chosen people. Have you ever had a time when you felt you were mistreated because of your beliefs? What did you ask God to do when this happened? Or have you been more like chapter 130 when you had to call out to God and admit your sins so you could ask for His forgiveness?
Hands
Talk about the questions above as a family. Talk about people who are still being persecuted for their beliefs. What are some ways you can help these people? The greatest gift you can have is to pray for them often.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for giving us scriptures that help us to see how early believers faced terrible trials and remained true to You. Help us to remember how blessed we are to learn from them. Please forgive us for the times we fall short and help us to use these times to make us stronger for You. We love you. Amen
