Read Psalm 40

Head

Psalm 40 is a song written by King David. He starts by thanking God for helping him when he was in big trouble. David says he waited patiently, and God heard his prayers. God saved him and gave him a strong, safe place to stand - like a big rock. David talks about how amazing God is and how much He loves us. He says we should trust God instead of looking for help in the wrong places. David also wants to share with everyone how good God is! He promises to keep singing about God’s love and faithfulness.

Even though David still has some problems, he knows God will never leave him. He asks God to keep helping him because he knows God loves him and has a good plan for his life.

Heart

"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry." — Psalm 40:1

Have you ever had to wait for something, like a friend to come over or your favorite dessert after dinner? Waiting can be hard, especially when you’re feeling upset or need help.

David knew what that felt like. In Psalm 40, David says he cried out to God when he was having a hard time, and God helped him! God didn’t just hear David; He pulled him out of trouble, gave him strength, and helped him feel safe again.

The same is true for us. When we’re sad, scared, or unsure, we can talk to God. He hears every prayer, and He helps us in the best way. Sometimes, we need to wait, just like David did. But while we wait, we can trust that God is working for our good because He loves us so much.

Hands

The next time you feel scared or unsure, stop and pray! When someone around you is afraid, you can pray for them, too! Take a moment and pray the prayer below.

Prayer: Dear God, Thank You for hearing me when I pray. Help me to trust You, even when I have to wait. I know You love me and want the best for me. Thank You for being my strong and loving helper.
