Head

God’s Word tells us in Romans 3:23 that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Jesus is the only person who has ever lived who has never sinned or disobeyed God. The two psalms we’re reading today were written by David. This is the same David who fought Goliath! David was very close to God during his life and wanted to obey Him. God gave David special promises and made him King over Israel, and David loved to worship God! However, David started making bad decisions, turning from what He knew God would want Him to do, and ended up sinning and making big mistakes. In Psalm 51, David feels very sad about the sins he’s committed, and he asks God to give him a new, clean heart. He knew that only God could forgive him and help him change!

Heart

Just like David, we all make mistakes and do things we know are wrong. Our sins can make us feel very far away from God, make us sad, or even make us feel angry at ourselves. But fortunately, God still loves us and wants a relationship with us! Just like King David, we can ask God to give us a clean heart. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that we are a new creation in Christ! He takes away our old sinful ways and gives us a new, fresh start! This doesn’t mean we’re perfect - we will still make mistakes and mess up. But we know that when we do, we have a loving God we can call on and ask to forgive us.

Hands

We don’t have to be afraid to talk to God about our sins. Instead, He wants us to come to Him anytime we don’t do the right thing. We can apologize to Him when we make mistakes and ask Him to help us do what is right next time! He will always forgive us, and His love for us never changes! Can you think of a mistake you’ve made this week? Maybe you lied or disobeyed your parents? Maybe you were unkind to a sibling? Maybe you said something hurtful to someone? Take time today and talk to God about it!

Prayer: Dear God, I know I have sinned and messed up. I know that when I make mistakes, You love me and forgive me. I know I can talk to You about anything, and I don’t have to be afraid. Give me a clean heart, and help me obey You with my words and actions. Amen.
