Read John 1

HEAD

Welcome to the gospel according to John! John opens this chapter with a beautiful explanation of Jesus. He refers to Jesus as “the Word”. What in the world does that mean? Did you know that Jesus and God are one? Way back when God made the world, Jesus was right there with Him! Verse 1 tells us that “the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. That’s a little wild to comprehend, but what God is saying is that Jesus was with Him in Heaven and then was sent to earth as a physical form of all that God is. He was sent to earth to show people God’s grace, mercy, love, and truth. He sent Him to be a gift to us!

HEART

Verses 10 and 11 break my heart. Jesus came to this world, and His own people didn’t know Him or want to know Him. But there is hope. As we read further, we see that those who did know Him and believed in Him became children of God. What a gift!? God sent Jesus here to fill the gap between God and us. He bore our sin so that we could live in perfect unity with our Heavenly Father. Did you know that the same gift is available for us today?

HANDS

Do you know Jesus? If you’re unsure of what that means, talk about it as a family. We have some great resources if you have questions. Reach out to your KXP Minister about our Becoming a Christian booklet. It will walk you through every step to knowing Jesus and stepping into a relationship with Him. John was an apostle who spent his life telling people about Jesus. When you step into a relationship with Jesus, you can share him with others, too!

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son to this earth! What a gift?! We are so undeserving! Lord, help me to be more like Jesus every single day so that I can point people to You. I love You! Amen.
